  Patients should ensure that they are covered for dental benefit by phoning 1890 400400 Ex. 4480 or 01 8786444 before their consultation. Alternatively, please give your PPS Number to our receptionist on duty when making your appointment and we will be happy to check your entitlement before you arrive for your appointment.
• Medical Card Patients
  Our practice is registered with the HSE to treat Medical Card patients. Please bring your medical card with you.
• Emergency Treatment
  People in pain and accident victims will be seen as soon as possible and we try to give them priority. Please call as early as possible.
• Children
  Special care and attention are given to children to ensure that their visit is an enjoyable experience. Children from the age of 3 and onwards are advised to attend on a regular basis to make their early experiences at the dentist a pleasurable one. Children under sixteen must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

We are happy to treat medical card holders. If you hold a full current medical card you are entitled to a free dental check up once every 12 months. You can avail of two fillings per calendar year. Extractions, denture repairs etc are also covered. Dentures and treatments such as root canal treatments require prior approval. Scale and polishing is no longer covered by the medical card scheme and the cost for this treatment at our practise is €50.

Healthy gums are the foundation for your teeth, providing the support needed for your teeth to function, as they should. Healthy gums are light pink in colour, or darker for people with darker complexions. Healthy gums are dotted, much like the surface of an orange, are not swollen or tender and don't bleed when brushing or flossing.

A person with gum disease might notice:

• Gums that have receded, or pulled away from the teeth
• Infection or pus between the teeth and gums

At the Cork Dental Care clinic we provide gum treatments ranging from routine scaling and polishing to more advanced therapies such as root planning and surgery. We recommend regular attendance for scaling and polsihing of adult patients.

Who needs a Mouthguard?

Mouthguards should be used by everyone - both children and adults - who play contact sports such as football, hurling, boxing, soccer, hockey and basketball. However, even those participating in non-contact sports (for example gymnastics) and recreational activities such as skateboarding and mountain biking, that might pose a risk of injury to the mouth, would benefit from wearing a protective mouth guard.

We provide high quality shock absorbing maouthguards designed for competitive sports people with attitude. All our mouthguards are designed to accomodate the patient's unique dental pattern based on their personal impressions. The result is a custom fit sports guard made to the athletes own requirements. All children, teenagers and adults have different shaped jaws and teeth and a custom fabricated mouthguard is important for fit, comfort and protection. You can choose the colour and we provide name tagging plus a storage box.

Generally, mouthguards cover your upper teeth only, but in some instances (such as if you wear braces or another fixed dental appliance on your lower jaw), our dentist will make a mouth guard for the lower teeth as well.

Why Use A Mouth Guard When Playing Sports?

Because accidents can happen during any physical activity, the advantage of using a mouthguard is that it can help limit the risk of mouth-related injuries to your lips, tongue and soft tissues of your mouth. Mouthguards also help you avoid chipped or broken teeth, nerve damage to a tooth or even tooth loss.

Can I Wear A Mouth Guard If I Wear Braces?

Yes. Since an injury to the face could damage orthodontic braces or other fixed appliances, a properly fitted mouthguard may be particularly important for people who wear braces or have fixed bridge work. An important reminder: do not wear any retainers or other removable appliance during any contact sports or during any recreational activities that put your mouth at risk for injury.

Simple and user-friendly handling

The handling of our bleaching regime is uncomplicated and user-friendly: The patient simply fills the custom-fabricated and optimal fitting trays with the high viscosity gel and wears them on their teeth according to instruction. Wearing the trays for a short duration of two hours is sufficient for the gel to reach its full effect. The first treatment success can be seen already after the second application. The consistency of the gel prevents gingival irritation, since it does not run out of the tray. The fresh mint aroma is also pleasant for the patients. This system allows you to be in control of the level of whitening and also to bleach individual teeth.
